I'm not going to say I was disappointed, because there were many "pockets" of real and genuine beauty that I discovered during my little adventure, but most of the city is under construction. There are cranes everywhere, and building are going up, and there are open pits ready to be filled in. Ms. Merkel has put Germany to work, and it shows everywhere you go. Public work projects and private projects are booming. It was difficult to take a picture anywhere in this city where construction or renovation wasn't happening. The same was true of Munich only on a lesser scale than here in Stuttgart.
Once you leave the railway station, you walk into a giant shopping mall. Shopping and eating everywhere you look. There are some monuments that aren't under renovation, but for the most part, everything is being fixed.
I managed to walk through the green area which is "huge" by any standards, and it too was pocketed with construction. But there were isolated islands of beauty.
I spent the day there, had a late lunch, and then came back to Baden Baden to get ready for my trip to Zurich tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
